Training and Development

Our vision is that people collaborate and are empowered and valued through communication. There are a number of stakeholders involved for this vision to come to fruition, including professional service providers, cultural mediators and the LEP population.

Ongoing training and development is available to professional service providers. Short video clips online are offered for providers on how to access our language services and best practices for working with cultural mediators and people with limited English proficiency(LEP).

Our training for cultural mediators is an intensive inquiry in communication and professionalism. Cultural mediators complete the initial general training and hours of practical work. There is a language proficiency and interpreting knowledge assessment taken before receiving permission to take the course. Continuing courses will be offered that cover industry specific learning for cultural mediators in medical, legal and financial arenas. Students may elect to take one or all three of these additional courses.

Our language proficiency assessments are available to organizations that hire bilingual people to ensure their acquired language proficiency including literacy. Our department is always available to work with clients according to their individual needs.
